Are You Focused On Your Goals?

 

When we focus on something we want, in a positive way, we immediately increase our chances of success. Some people like to work with big, long term aims, whereas others prefer a series of short term, compact goals. Whatever your preference, FOCUS is essential to developing and achieving results.

 

 

FIND YOUR DRIVEN GOAL

 

A ‘Driven’ goal will act like a magnet, drawing you towards it. The best goal will appeal to both the logical, conscious part of your brain but also to the emotional, subconscious part. This is because 95% of the actions we all take each day are controlled by our subconscious. So, if we rely on logic alone, we are setting ourselves up for failure. By combining logic and emotion you will be able to develop relevant goals which drive you forward.

 

 

OPEN YOUR MIND TO REALITY

We are all creatures of habit and can easily fall into routines and thought patterns which sabotage our success. By opening your mind and challenging old assumptions and beliefs you will create an environment for success. Working out the reality of ‘now’ will enable you to capitalise on your real strengths and find ways around your weaknesses. It will also help you to be flexible enough to respond well to opportunities and threats.

 

 

CLARIFY THE GAP BETWEEN YOUR GOAL AND WHERE YOU ARE NOW.

When you have a ‘Driven’ goal you have something specific to aim at which you are passionate about achieving. There are always many ways close the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Using creative thinking techniques and keeping your mind open will help you to identify a range of ideas, potential strategies and actions to close the gap.

 

 

UNDERSTAND YOUR BRIDGE

When you have an abundance of ideas you can start making plans. Some of your ideas will be more effective or practical than others. Understanding your particular ‘bridge’ (or strategy) will give you a route map to follow. Don’t be afraid to learn from other people but remember, your particular skills and resources are unique to you.

 

 

STEP FORWARD, ONE STEP AT A TIME

Whilst keeping your ‘Driven’ goal in mind, concentrate on the first step in your plan, then the next and the next. Be consistent about taking action. Review your success and be flexible if required but keep going forward. If something seems too difficult, break it down into even smaller steps and tackle one at a time. Referring back to your ‘Driven’ goal, keeping an open mind, and concentrating on small steps will help you to keep confident about success and avoid procrastination.
